More than 600 junior high and high school wrestlers are expected to descend on Broken Arrow High School Tiger Field House Saturday for the Annual Broken Arrow Open Joe Zamora/Skyler Holman Classic.

While the Tigers will be without multi-State Champions Zach Marcheselli and Gavin Potter, defending state champion and Oklahoma State University commit Reece Witcraft will wrestle. State qualifiers Jared Hill, Blazik Perez, and Blake Gonzalez will also wrestle in the Open. Jackson Cockrell, who wrestled up at 126 at last year, will be back to wrestling at a more natural weight of 113 or 120 Saturday and this season.

One wrestler that Coach Shawn Jones mentioned that Tiger fans may want to watch on Saturday is sophomore Emmanuel Skillings, a junior high state champion last season.

Eight mats will be used for the tournament, with four in the Field House gym and four others in the two wrestling practice rooms.

Admission is $5.

Broken Arrow will participate in two other preseason tournaments, the Cascia Spectacular at Cascia Hall on Nov. 17 and the Pre-Turkey Open at Edmond Memorial High School on Nov. 21. The Tigers open the season on Nov. 29 at Owasso.

The Tiger varsity schedule also includes December trips to the Gardner Edgerton (Kan.) Invitational and the Ironman in Ohio. The first match in 2019 is against defending state champion Choctaw, followed by the Geary Invitational.
